In reading through this excellent transportation guide for seniors, I saw it as a great tool! I can certainly see this both in the hands of children with aging parents as well as those such as Hammond, who will have to make this difficult decision about discontinuing to drive.
As a son who has lived through those sensitive moments when my parents had to tearfully give up their capacity to drive and as a pastor of a Christian church who spends considerable time with seniors, I highly commend Everett Hammond's Ride Guide. In reading this excellent overview of the issues that seniors and families face regarding the hard decision of giving up driving, Hammond understands the issue quite empathetically. He identifies himself as a healthy octogenarian who is on the cusp of facing this issue personally and also has helped many others. The heart of our Christian faith is a God who has identified with our humanity fully in Jesus Christ. Just so Mr. Hammond is walking in the shoes of those who must make this decision that feels like the last threat to their freedom.
It is all here. One stop shopping with some disarming humor. This is a very thorough and humorous guide. Hammond has covered it from every angle I could think of, I hope this gets wide circulation.
