Ken Medema: a performer, composer and recording artist for over 34 years, a truly gifted musician, well known for his ability to listen and compose a song spontaneously that captures the essence and spirit of a situation or condition.
Though blind from birth, Ken has demonstrated his extraordinary musical talent to thousands of loyal fans across the nation and around the world. Ken holds a master’s degree (1969) as a music therapist from Michigan State in Lansing, Michigan, where he concentrated heavily on performance skills in piano and voice. He worked for four years as a music therapist at Essex County Hospital in New Jersey. It was while he was employed there that he began writing and performing his own songs. Because he has lived with some degree of being different all his life, he has great empathy for people who feel they have been disenfranchised.
When Ken learned about seniors who feared they had or were about to lose their independence and dignity by no longer continuing to drive and fearful of what the future might hold, applying his innate sense of compassion and gift of improvisation, he was inspired to create this up beat special “A New Beginning” song.
